[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] Korea's largest medical device exhibition, the "International Medical Devices & Hospital Equipment Exhibition (KIMES 2022)," where advanced medical devices, hospital equipment, and smart healthcare devices can be viewed at a glance, will be held for three days from the 10th at COEX in Samseong-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul.

1,200 Companies Showcase Over 30,000 Products

Co-hosted by Korea E&X, the Korea Medical Devices Industrial Cooperative, and the Korea Medical Devices Industry Association, this exhibition is expected to be an opportunity to check the latest trends in the rapidly growing medical industry and to explore products reflecting cutting-edge technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution era, such as artificial intelligence (AI). It will be held across the entire COEX and the Grand Ballroom, covering a total area of 45,000 square meters, with participation from over 1,200 domestic and international companies exhibiting approximately 30,000 items including advanced medical devices, hospital equipment, medical information systems, healthcare and rehabilitation devices, and medical-related supplies.

The lineup of participating companies is also impressive. Domestic companies such as Samsung Electronics, DK Medical System, Restem, LG Electronics, SG Healthcare, DRGEM, DRTECH, Genoray, GE Healthcare, and PHILIPS, which are related to imaging diagnostic equipment, will participate alongside global companies. Additionally, healthcare-related companies like InBody and Selvas Healthcare, and medical information-related companies such as Bit Computer, Ubicare, Ezis Healthcare, SenacSoft, and MediBloc, as well as representative domestic and international medical industry companies including Hanshin Medical, Huons Meditech (disinfectors), Daesung Marif, Stratech (physical therapy devices), Classys, Hironic, and Lutronic (laser therapy devices), will showcase numerous new products reflecting the rapidly changing medical environment. Especially in the "Medical AI Pavilion," next-generation AI convergence medical solution technologies can be glimpsed through companies like Airs Medical, Weisen, Clarify, and SK.

Companies Launching with "Advanced Solutions"

Participating companies have declared their intention to present products of a new paradigm. GE Healthcare Korea plans to showcase a wide range of next-generation new products including ultrasound devices and various digital healthcare solutions based on the AI platform "Edison." These include the VENUE series of mobile ultrasound devices optimized for on-site diagnosis with AI-based automation features, the pocket-sized portable wireless ultrasound diagnostic device "Vscan Air," the cardiac ultrasound "Vivid" AI platform, as well as digital healthcare solutions such as the ventilator "CARESCAPE R860" and the data integration management solution "MUSE NX," which integrates data inside and outside hospitals for cardiac disease patients. Kim Eun-mi, president of GE Healthcare Korea, said, "As COVID-19 prolongs, medical professionals worldwide are facing difficulties, increasing the importance of efficient healthcare solutions. By introducing various AI-based digital healthcare solutions, we aim to help domestic medical staff provide more efficient, accurate, and personalized diagnosis and treatment."

Ubicare plans to showcase a broad healthcare service portfolio ranging from hospital and clinic medical support, operations, and patient management services to various medical devices. The electronic medical record system (EMR) "Uisalang New Clinic" and "Uisalang Pen Chart," to be unveiled at this exhibition, are solutions that have significantly improved the user interface considering the usage patterns of existing Uisalang customers. They can be utilized according to the characteristics and convenience of each medical department, helping to increase hospital work efficiency. Through "Uisalang Pen Chart," various handwritten records and paper charts can be recorded and managed on tablets or mobile devices.

Ubicare also plans to solidify its competitiveness in the medical service industry by utilizing the hospital management consulting solution based on medical big data, "AlphaN," and the mobile healthcare platform "Ddokdak." "AlphaN" is a solution that provides regional and departmental medical trend information and customized hospital management diagnosis and consulting based on medical institution big data. "Ddokdak" supports patients in handling all hospital visit processes directly via mobile, including hospital search, appointment booking and registration, non-face-to-face consultations, payment of medical fees, and claims for actual expense insurance. Lee Sang-kyung, CEO of Ubicare, said, "Celebrating our 30th anniversary, we have set up the largest booth ever among participating companies and prepared various attractions and on-site events. Going forward, as a core partner in the digitalization of hospitals and clinics, we will actively prepare to leap forward as a platform specialized company that serves not only hospitals and clinics but also the general public as a smart doctor."

Rich Side Events Including Conferences and Academic Meetings

There will also be abundant side events. Reflecting the growing interest in advanced components and materials as the medical industry expands through convergence technologies, "MedicomteK 2022 (Medical Device Components & Materials Technology Exhibition)" will be held concurrently at COEX Hall D, and the "Global Healthcare & Medical Tourism Conference (Medical Korea 2022)" will be held both online and offline.

At the COEX Conference Center, various specialized medical information will be provided through seminars on medical trends forecasting and responding to the future medical industry, medical technology seminars, overseas market development seminars, startup and consulting seminars for clinic doctors, smart healthcare seminars, medical policy briefings, and seminars related to licensing and approval. The Seoul chapters of the Korean Radiological Technologists Association and the Korean Physical Therapists Association will hold international academic conferences awarding continuing education credits during the exhibition period at the COEX Exhibition Hall Conference Center.

In particular, KIMES, together with KOTRA, will hold the "2022 Global Medical Device Export Consultation Meeting (GMEP)" both online and offline to support domestic companies in developing sales channels. GMEP, organized by KOTRA, is a representative convergence consultation meeting in the medical bio sector, where during the KIMES exhibition period, over two days starting from the 10th, 300 domestic medical device companies and 250 overseas buyers will be matched at the export consultation hall located in the lobby of COEX Exhibition Hall B for export consultations.
