[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] Marriott International’s ‘AC Hotel,’ which embodies modern luxury, is making its first landing in downtown Seoul.
Marriott International and Hee & Sun Co., Ltd. announced on the 8th that the ‘AC Hotel by Marriott Seoul Gangnam’ will officially open on the 22nd in Yeoksam-dong, Seoul.
AC Hotel by Marriott Seoul Gangnam, a Marriott brand, operates about 180 locations across more than 25 countries and regions worldwide with a modern luxury concept. It has gained popularity in Asia with openings in Malaysia and Japan, and the first store in Korea will be operated by Hee & Sun, which has successfully managed lifestyle hotels such as Moxy Seoul Insadong, and is scheduled for a grand opening.
The hotel is a 21-story building with a total of 274 rooms and includes facilities such as an all-day dining restaurant, rooftop bar, lounge, fitness and sauna facilities, and a kids’ lounge.
AC Hotel by Marriott Seoul Gangnam has designed its hotel space reflecting the demand of the MZ generation (Millennials + Generation Z), who seek new experiences and prioritize privacy in the hotel vacation trend. Representative examples include the ‘Premier Pool Suite (1 room)’ and ‘Premier Pool Room (4 rooms),’ terrace rooms with private pools. It is the first select-level or higher hotel in Korea to place private pools on room terraces, allowing guests to enjoy a leisurely yet luxurious urban pool vacation.
At the all-day dining restaurant ‘AC Kitchen,’ guests can experience a dynamic and spectacular live station where chefs cook right before their eyes, as well as feel the modern European sensibility in downtown Seoul. Signature lunch menus include octopus dish Polpo cooked at low temperature served with garnish, tapas topped with square-cut ham, red bell peppers, vinaigrette sauce, white kidney beans, Spanish chorizo sausage, and marinated black olives. Guests can enjoy a variety of high-quality and diverse dishes not only from Spain but from across Europe. Additionally, the dinner service includes a dessert buffet prepared by the chef.
Also, a banquet hall salon located on the 2nd floor of the hotel can accommodate small weddings starting from 10 guests. A media wall equipped with LED screens covering the entire wall allows for dramatic wedding presentations using media art, and the venue is fully equipped with audiovisual equipment to add splendor to weddings.
The rooftop bar ‘Cloud,’ located on the top floor (21st floor), creates a glamorous atmosphere harmonizing with the night view of Gangnam. From the floor-to-ceiling glass windows and the open outdoor terrace, guests can enjoy city views and, on clear days, panoramic views of Namsan and Bukhansan mountains while savoring various cocktails and wine dinner menus. In line with the ‘small wedding’ trend, the rooftop outdoor wedding service is also offered for couples preparing minimal yet luxurious weddings. The rooftop bar, known for its optimized food and beverage service and sophisticated, delicate interior, provides a unique wedding atmosphere.
A space for customers wishing to enjoy healing in the city with their children has also been prepared. The ‘Little Champion,’ a kids’ customized play area located on the 3rd floor, operates about 10 play facilities at all times. In collaboration with the early childhood education program ‘Kids Schole,’ professional play instructors take care of the children, and various family programs will be provided so that guardians accompanying children can have their own time.
Various artworks placed throughout the hotel also offer unique sights. Guests can encounter diverse installation art and paintings by famous Korean artists such as A-ryeong, Sim So-i, Kim Hyun-il, Yoo Hee-song, Kim Ki-tae, Choi Ain, and Chae Min-woo in the hotel’s common areas and inside rooms. The modern and simple sensibility of the artworks enhances the space’s elegance.
Additionally, all guests are provided with ‘Pate de Fruits,’ a jelly containing seasonal fruit concentrate, and the first 20 guests to check in daily receive a ‘Lavender Pouch’ that helps promote restful sleep with its sweet and subtle fragrance.
Woo Heemyung, chairman of AC Hotel by Marriott Seoul Gangnam, said, “While maintaining the clean and luxurious European mood unique to AC Hotel inspired by Spain, we have differentiated by thoroughly reflecting the lifestyle of domestic customers in all facilities,” adding, “We will establish ourselves as the only modern luxury hotel in Korea by providing special rest and valuable experiences in downtown Gangnam.”
AC Hotel is Marriott International’s select brand reflecting the lifestyle of the MZ generation, with over 180 locations worldwide. Following Malaysia and Japan, AC Hotel by Marriott Seoul Gangnam is the fifth in Asia and plans to provide rooms and facilities for urban relaxation.
