[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Province announced on the 7th that it has designated four pediatric specialized dedicated hospitals for the rapid treatment of pediatric COVID-19 confirmed cases and will begin operating them sequentially.
The pediatric specialized dedicated hospitals are Mokpo Children's Hospital, Suncheon Miz Women's and Children's Hospital, Suncheon Hyundai Women's and Children's Hospital, and Naju NH Mirae Children's Hospital.
A total of 112 dedicated beds have been secured. Mokpo Children's Hospital and Naju NH Mirae Children's Hospital will start operating from today, while Suncheon Miz Women's and Children's Hospital and Hyundai Women's and Children's Hospital will begin operations on the 10th and 11th, respectively.
The main treatment targets of the pediatric specialized dedicated hospitals are pediatric patients aged 6 months to 11 years, focusing on face-to-face consultations and inpatient treatment.
Since guardians can make reservations directly without going through public health centers, it is expected that medical accessibility will improve as outpatient treatment or hospitalization when necessary will be possible.
The province plans to continuously expand pediatric specialized dedicated hospitals in consultation with local children's hospitals.
Additionally, the website will provide a Q&A guide for guardians of children undergoing home treatment for COVID-19 to inform them of symptom-specific response measures such as high fever and cough.
A provincial official said, “In the case of pediatric confirmed patients, communication is difficult, making treatment challenging, but securing pediatric specialized dedicated hospitals is expected to eliminate medical blind spots for pediatric patients,” and added, “We will continue to strive to secure more beds through additional designations.”
