Domestic Educational Laptop Market Grows Over 5 Times in 3 Years
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Sun-mi] LG Electronics announced on the 6th that it is expanding its lineup of educational laptops to meet the demand for non-face-to-face education by launching the LG Chromebook equipped with Google's Chrome OS.
Following last year's launch of the Whalebook, which features Naver's educational platform Whale Space, LG Electronics is actively targeting the rapidly growing educational laptop market by adding a laptop equipped with Google's Chrome OS.
According to market research firm IDC, the domestic educational laptop market size exploded from about 80,000 units in 2019 to approximately 430,000 units last year.
The LG Chromebook (model name: 11TC50Q) is a cloud-based two-in-one laptop equipped with Google's Chrome OS, supporting fast boot times and an intuitive user interface (UI) similar to Android-based smartphones. It is equipped with both front and rear cameras and a built-in microphone, allowing it to be used for video classes without additional equipment. During online classes, teachers can easily share class-related materials with students using cloud servers, and students can conveniently submit assignments.
Users can connect to the cloud with their Google account and download desired apps from the Chrome Web Store, Google Play Store, and more. This product features an 11.6-inch (approximately 29 cm diagonal) touch display. The screen can rotate 360°, allowing it to be used in laptop or tablet mode.
The LG Chromebook weighs 1.44 kg. It is also convenient to carry using the handle applied to the hinge connecting the display and keyboard. It has waterproof and dustproof functions. LG Electronics will sell the LG Chromebook through its online brand shop and major online shopping malls starting from the 7th. The shipment price is 690,000 KRW.
Kim Sun-hyung, Executive Director of Korea HE Marketing at LG Electronics, said, “We will meet customers' needs with the LG Chromebook, which is equipped with various features optimized for the non-face-to-face education environment.”
