[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Sumi] The Democratic Party of Korea has filed a complaint with the prosecution against a netizen who claimed that candidate Lee Jae-myung held a shamanistic ritual earlier this year to secure victory in the presidential election.
The Democratic Party's legal support team for the election campaign stated in a press release on the 5th, "Candidate Lee Jae-myung has never held a shamanistic ritual for winning the presidential election," and added, "We have submitted a complaint to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office against the poster who maliciously spread false information to attack and defeat candidate Lee."
According to the Democratic Party, the unidentified accused posted on online communities, "A scene of a shamanistic ritual for presidential election victory at Palgongsan of Lee Jae-myung on the early morning of January 1st. They slaughtered 2 cows and 15 pigs and spent about 100 million won on the ritual."
Along with this, they uploaded a photo of the shamanistic event welcoming the Year of the Black Tiger. The photo showed a banner with the words "Prayer for overcoming COVID-19 and national peace, Lee Jae-myung's victory in the presidential election with the people."
Meanwhile, more than 111 civic figures who received mobile appointment letters from the People Power Party's election headquarters held a press conference at the Democratic Party headquarters on the same day to declare their support for candidate Lee. They stated, "People Power Party appointment letters are being distributed nationwide in large quantities without the consent of the recipients, and illegal acts have gone too far," demanding an apology from People Power Party candidate Yoon Seok-youl.
