The Korea Forest Service and firefighting authorities have raised the alert due to consecutive large wildfires during the dry season.
The Korea Forest Service and firefighting authorities announced that the fire, which started around 11:17 a.m. near the roadside of a hill in Ducheon-ri, Buk-myeon, Uljin-gun, Gyeongbuk, is rapidly spreading and has reached near the summit.
Initially, the Korea Forest Service issued a Level 2 wildfire response at 12:35 p.m. shortly after the fire broke out, and then escalated it to Level 3 at 2:15 p.m.
The firefighting authorities issued National Fire Mobilization Order No. 1 at 1:50 p.m. The forestry authorities are deploying 21 helicopters and 130 personnel to extinguish the fire.
Uljin-gun has issued an evacuation order to residents of nearby villages where the wildfire occurred. The Gyeongbuk Fire Headquarters is responding to prevent the fire from spreading to the Uljin Hanul Nuclear Power Plant.
