Community and IT YouTubers Raise Issues

[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] Samsung Electronics has encountered a stumbling block of "automatic performance degradation" due to the 'Game Optimizing Service (GOS)' pre-installed as a basic system application on the Galaxy S22 series. Although Samsung Electronics initially showed a lukewarm response, it has belatedly started to address the issue, stating that it is "internally looking for a solution," but the possibility of it affecting global sales cannot be ruled out.
According to industry sources on the 3rd, a total of 1,825 posts and comments are found in the community when searching for the term 'GOS' on Samsung Members.
The Galaxy S22 series comes pre-installed with the GOS app, which adjusts CPU and GPU performance. GOS is automatically activated when running high-spec, high-resolution games on Galaxy smartphones. To prevent excessive device overheating and battery consumption, it adjusts the frame rate per second and GPU performance, lowering the screen resolution.

The issue was first raised mainly in online communities and by IT YouTubers. Numerous posts appeared in online communities stating that "there were problems such as graphics distortion or slow speeds when running high-spec games like 'Genshin Impact'." Samsung Electronics reportedly included some games, online video services (OTT), cameras, and other general apps in an exclusion list one by one, and the so-called 'blacklist' address list circulated openly.
The performance impact caused by the GOS app was also revealed in numbers. According to test results shared on Twitter by Geekbench developer John Poole on the same day, the single-core and multi-core performance dropped to 53.9% and 64.2%, respectively, when GOS was active on the 'Galaxy S22 Ultra (Samsung SM-S908W)' model. This is about half the previous level. The Geekbench community was flooded with posts demanding "to blacklist the entire Galaxy series following China's OnePlus."
Consumers expressed anger at Samsung for ▲installing GOS that prevents the improved hardware from performing at 100%, ▲pre-installing it as a default app without separate notification, and ▲blocking workarounds. While there was a workaround in the previous Galaxy S21 series, Samsung introduced a blanket restriction policy.
Samsung Electronics installed GOS to prevent explosion accidents caused by overheating issues. When playing high-spec games for extended periods, smartphone overheating can cause the risk of low-temperature burns. Samsung Electronics also stated, "We were aware of the GOS issue before the S22 launch but prioritized safety," and added, "We will find a solution as soon as possible."
