Aiming to Leap into a 'Comprehensive Entertainment' Centered on Securing Diverse IPs and In-House Production Capabilities
Content commerce startup ‘Content Carrier’ has partnered with HooSee Creative to jointly establish ‘Weta Lab Co., Ltd.’
Weta Lab is a comprehensive entertainment company established by legally separating HooSee Creative’s entertainment division. It plans to implement the charm and characteristics of its affiliated artists into content suited for the new media era, based on artist management. Additionally, leveraging its internal production capabilities, it aims to maximize synergy effects between the company and the artists. Currently, actors Baek Seong-hyun, Lim Sa-rang, and Kim Jin-woo are affiliated.
Through the joint establishment of Weta Lab, Content Carrier plans to develop virtual IPs of actors and conduct various content businesses based on them. The virtual IP designed by Content Carrier is a content model that advances the recently emerging Virtual Human concept one step further. The goal is to create virtual IPs of actors that can be utilized online and to systematize and accelerate access so that anyone can easily approach them.
Virtual Humans are virtual beings created using AI and advanced computer graphics technology, possessing appearances very similar to real people. Representative examples include virtual influencers such as Rozy, Kim Rae-a, and Lucy, who are actively engaged on SNS and in advertising. The biggest feature of these IPs is their ability to operate freely without restrictions in virtual spaces.
The actors’ virtual IPs combine the advantages of real celebrities and virtual humans. They apply the unique image of the actors directly, resulting in more vividness and realism compared to virtual humans. Moreover, styles can be freely changed according to the needs of brand companies, and various activities can be conducted anytime and anywhere without constraints of time and place. Above all, the cost is reasonable, enabling brand companies to plan diverse marketing content.
Furthermore, Weta Lab is accelerating efforts not only to secure virtual IPs but also to create a fictional world setting that can unify these IPs, while aiming to enter overseas content markets through global platforms.
Content Carrier has established digital content production capabilities and a pool of affiliated brands through the successful domestic operation of the short-form review beauty commerce platform ‘Wallaview’. By securing unique virtual IPs through the joint establishment of ‘Weta Lab’, it has strengthened its competitiveness. Going forward, it is expected to make a full-fledged leap in the metaverse platform through distribution networks for content, IP, and physical assets.
Meanwhile, Content Carrier expanded into Japan in the second half of last year, stepping up as a ‘K-content distributor’. Starting from the second quarter, it plans to aggressively target overseas markets beyond Japan to Southeast Asia with diverse content categories including beauty, fashion, and food.
