Omicron? No Disruptions for School Opening... Gyeongnam Office of Education to Operate New Semester Adjustment Week

The Gyeongnam Office of Education supports a system to combat the spread of Omicron in preparation for the new school term.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kang Saerom] The Gyeongnam Office of Education will operate a "New Semester Adaptation Week" for a total of two weeks from the start of the semester on the 2nd to the 11th to prepare for the rapid spread of Omicron.

The type of school attendance will be determined based on the confirmed case rate of enrolled students at 3% and the rate of confirmed students and self-quarantined students at 15%.

If both indicators fall below the criteria, normal educational activities will be conducted; if only one of the two indicators exceeds the criteria, all students will attend school but some educational activities will be restricted.

If both indicators exceed the criteria, some remote classes or full remote classes will be implemented.

On the first day of school, rapid antigen test kits will be distributed to each school, and after education on the changed quarantine guidelines, early dismissal will be implemented.

Considering the adaptation period until the 11th, overcrowded schools (1,000 or more students in elementary schools, 800 or more in secondary schools) will adjust school density to two-thirds using the same method as in the second half of the 2021 academic year.

Schools are preparing for the new academic year by establishing detailed criteria for switching to remote classes based on the confirmed case rate and attendance suspension rate, which are the standards for emergency education plans, plans to provide alternative classes for quarantined students, and plans for classes and operations of the affected class or subject in case of confirmed staff cases.
