[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] On the 23rd (local time), the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Ukraine issued an urgent notice to Korean residents staying locally to prepare to move to safe areas in case of an emergency.
The Korean Embassy located in Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, stated on its website and social networking services (SNS), "The severity of the situation is escalating significantly, and we assess that the possibility of a Russian attack is increasing."
The embassy announced, "Amid continuous reports that Russian military action is imminent, today (the 23rd), all staff of the Russian Embassy and consulate in Ukraine have urgently left Ukraine, and it has been additionally confirmed that some embassy staff from other countries have also abruptly suspended their duties and hurriedly left Kyiv."
It added, "Considering the current urgent changes in the situation, we strongly recommend that Korean residents still staying in Ukraine make thorough preparations to promptly move to safe areas or safe locations in case of an emergency."
The embassy said it will closely monitor changes in the situation and provide safety information, and requested remaining Korean residents to maintain contact with the embassy.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs designated Ukraine as a travel-restricted area as of the 13th, but it is reported that 64 Korean residents are still staying locally.
