[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Kakao Entertainment announced on the 21st that it issued limited edition non-fungible token (NFT) goods for the musical Gentleman's Guide: Love and Murder in collaboration with the production company Shownote and presented them to the audience.
The musical Gentleman's Guide: Love and Murder is a comedy depicting the story of Monty Navarro, a poor protagonist living in early 1900s London, England, who discovers that he is the eighth heir of the famous aristocratic family Dysquith, and his process of eliminating heirs ranked above him to become an earl.
This NFT goods is a premium limited edition issued according to a special event held through Melon Ticket from January 18 to February 10. It targeted audiences who booked more than two performances of Gentleman's Guide: Love and Murder. Kakao Entertainment and the production company Shownote planned the event to give a meaningful gift to so-called 'N-time' viewing fans.
The NFTs issued this time are Monty and Dysquith. The Monty NFTs come in three types featuring actors Yoo Yeon-seok, Go Eun-sung, and Lee Sang-i who played the role. The Dysquith NFTs come in four types featuring actors Oh Man-seok, Jung Sung-hwa, Jung Moon-sung, and Lee Kyu-hyung who played the role, totaling seven types and 500 pieces issued. The NFT goods are divided into general and rare grades, and event participants receive one set randomly composed of one general grade Monty and one general grade Dysquith NFT. Among them, only two people will receive one rare grade NFT each: the ‘Monty All cast’ and the ‘Dysquith All cast’ versions.
The NFT goods contain unreleased performance photos and audio of the actors in a video with the concept of Monty’s memoir. In particular, since NFTs prevent forgery and duplication and allow proof of ownership, Kakao Entertainment expects that audiences can personally and permanently keep parts of the performance, and separate collecting through exchanges will be easy and fast, providing a new kind of enjoyment.
A representative of Kakao Entertainment said, “This is a meaningful project that offers musical-loving audiences a new and special experience of enjoying content while demonstrating the possibility of IP expansion through the new technology of NFTs. Also, the service platform Melon Ticket has become an opportunity to expand its service area as a link providing a unique performance experience.”
