LG Energy Solution appoints Dr. Byeon Seok, former Nvidia executive, as Chief Digital Officer

[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] LG Energy Solution announced on the 21st that it has recruited Dr. Byun Kyungseok, a world-renowned scholar in the field of machine learning, as its CDO (Chief Digital Officer, Executive Vice President).

According to LG Energy Solution, Dr. Byun served as one of fewer than five 'core data scientists' at the headquarters of NVIDIA, a leading company in AI computing in the United States. He led the development of technologies related to autonomous vehicles, industrial AI, and cloud AI. In particular, at NVIDIA, he spearheaded the development of intelligent manufacturing solutions for defect detection and yield stabilization, contributing to improved quality competitiveness. He also has extensive experience successfully leading numerous autonomous vehicle-related projects. As a senior member of IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), the world's largest professional organization in the fields of electrical, electronic, telecommunications, and computer engineering, he possesses a rich network of contacts both domestically and internationally in related fields. Dr. Byun earned his bachelor's degree in Control and Instrumentation Engineering from Seoul National University and completed his master's and doctoral degrees in Electrical Engineering at Stanford University, after which he worked at HP and Samsung Electronics.

An LG Energy Solution official stated, "As CDO, Dr. Byun will lead the company's digital transformation (DX) execution and concurrently serve as the head of the Manufacturing Intelligence Center. Based on his experience at NVIDIA, he will lead the smart factory initiatives at our global production plants." Dr. Byun said, "I will devote my efforts to the growth of LG Energy Solution, which is leading the future of the global battery industry, and further to the advancement of Korea's manufacturing industry."

LG Energy Solution plans to discover and implement digital innovation tasks across all areas including research and development (R&D), production, and marketing, leveraging the recruitment of the new CDO and the establishment of a new organization. To this end, it will expand the acquisition of machine learning experts and infrastructure, as well as promote collaboration.
