[Asia Economy Reporter Na Ye-eun] It has been revealed that Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party presidential candidate, and Yoon Seok-youl, the People Power Party presidential candidate, once consulted the "same physiognomist." Baek Jae-kwon, a physiognomy and feng shui expert and adjunct professor at Cyber Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, disclosed that he met with the couples of both parties.
On the 16th, Professor Baek stated in an interview with Monthly Chosun that he met Lee and his wife during the 2017 Democratic Party presidential primary, and later met Yoon and his wife after Yoon was appointed as the head of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office.
The meeting with Lee and his wife was arranged by a media company representative and took place during the 2017 Democratic Party presidential primary. The meeting with Yoon and his wife was arranged by a junior colleague of Yoon who was also acquainted with Professor Baek, and the timing was shortly after Yoon's appointment as head of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office.
Professor Baek said, "I talked with Lee for about four hours. I shared many hopeful stories about how to become president," adding, "Lee's physiognomy was that good. He was more than qualified to become the next ruling party presidential candidate."
When Professor Baek asked Lee, "Your physiognomy suggests you don't listen well to others, so how did you come to get a reading?" Lee replied, "That's not true. I do listen well to others."
He described Kim Hye-kyung as "calm and with a satisfied expression." Kim asked Professor Baek questions like, "Do I have the physiognomy to become First Lady?" and "Between the two of us (Lee and Kim), who has better physiognomy?" To which Professor Baek responded, "Lee's physiognomy is better than yours, ma'am."
Professor Baek also recalled the meeting with Yoon and his wife. He described Yoon as "a very unique person" who, instead of asking about his own future, asked questions such as "How are physiognomy and feng shui studied academically and applied in reality?"
When the conversation turned to politics, Yoon's wife Kim Geon-hee said, "My husband is a pure person and doesn't fit politics. If he goes into politics, I will stamp for divorce." Yoon laughed and replied, "Why worry about something I’m not going to do?"

Professor Baek also spoke about the physiognomy of the two candidates and their wives, describing Lee as having a "wildcat face" and Yoon as having a "crocodile face." He explained, "The wildcat face has a prickly side but is strong in wildness and intelligence. Lee fits this description. He is eloquent, has considerable fighting spirit, and his showmanship captivates voters. He is well-suited for modern politics."
Kim Hye-kyung was described as having a "puma face," which is charismatic, cool, and highly active. He said, "She has the physiognomy of a new-generation woman. She is a career woman type with strong activity. She is interested in power and makes various efforts to help her husband succeed. The puma face is charismatic and scary when angry, but the person is cool and straightforward."
On the other hand, Yoon's physiognomy was described as a "crocodile face." He said, "Crocodiles eat decayed meat and purify rivers. Just as they purify rivers, Yoon's mission is to purify the world. Crocodiles have little use in peaceful times. In troubled times, a crocodile-faced person can become a hero."
Kim Geon-hee was described as having a "peacock face," meaning "even if difficulties arise, she avoids them." He added, "The crocodile has strong power but lacks nobility. Therefore, as one rises in rank, one suffers a lot. Since Kim Geon-hee has a peacock face, she is treated well by her husband (Yoon Seok-youl)."
Meanwhile, Professor Baek explained the reason for revealing his meetings with the two couples, saying, "As the presidential election approaches, some individuals and media outlets are distorting the meeting between me and Yoon's couple. I want to correct this because the distortion seems likely to worsen as the election nears."
He continued, "It is practically impossible for someone aspiring to be president not to consult physiognomy or feng shui. Almost no past presidents have ignored advice from physiognomy, feng shui, or fortune-telling. Most past presidential candidates and businesspeople, regardless of party, have referred to advice on physiognomy or feng shui. Almost all presidents have done so. It cannot be considered strange."
