Current Administration's Nuclear Phase-Out Policy Criticized as 'Divisive'
"We Will Make Daejeon a Special City for the 4th Industrial Revolution"
[Asia Economy Reporters Junyi Park and Juhee Kang] Yoon Seok-yeol, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, criticized the current administration's nuclear phase-out policy, saying, "It is the Democratic Party government that let the world's best nuclear technology go to waste."
On the 15th, while campaigning on the streets of Euneungjeongi Culture Street in Daejeon Metropolitan City, Candidate Yoon said, "Since I started my political career in July, Daejeon was the first place I visited, and everyone was worried about the absurd nuclear phase-out policy of the Democratic Party government." About 400 to 500 Daejeon citizens and supporters gathered at the scene.
He continued, "During our period of rapid growth, electricity rates were one-fourth cheaper than in Japan," emphasizing, "Where did South Korea's industrial competitiveness come from? Why are they trying to ruin the country like this?"
He also pointed out that the current administration has been dividing people. Candidate Yoon said, "How has the Democratic Party government been over the past five years? Was it good? They consistently practiced double standards as if the people's power was their own power. They drove the people into suffering and divided them with outdated ideologies."
He then shouted, "Would you entrust this corrupt and incompetent Democratic Party government with power for another five years? Would you give them another five years of the same old story?"
He also emphasized that Daejeon is a "city of science" and pledged to work for the development of the Chungcheong and Daejeon regions. Candidate Yoon said, "Daejeon has played the role of South Korea's science capital," and added, "If I become president, I will make Daejeon a special city for the Fourth Industrial Revolution." He promised to build the Jungwon New Industry Belt and turn it into a second Daedeok Research Complex. He also pledged to relocate the Defense Acquisition Program Administration to make Daejeon a defense innovation base.
Along with this, he said, "The incompetent Democratic Party government only talks every day and spouts outdated ideologies, ignoring science. For the sake of Daejeon and South Korea, this reckless and incompetent government must be changed."
