Targeting Seoul residents aged 50-67... Priority selection of about 400 lower-income individuals introduced
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] On the 15th, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that it will provide 3,952 meaningful jobs that utilize the experience and wisdom of the 50-plus generation to contribute to the local community.
This year, about 400 retirees from the low-income bracket will be given priority selection. Low-income citizens residing in Seoul aged between 40 and 67 can apply for meaningful jobs, and about 400 people, which is 10% of the quota for each project, will be selected first.
Participants in meaningful jobs will engage in various activities depending on the project. They will visit neighbors in need of care within the community, based at local community centers, including welfare facilities for the disabled, elderly, and youth, and work in various spaces such as local children's centers and daycare centers. This year, new activities such as support for small business owners and single-person households will also begin.
From February to March, participants will be recruited sequentially by project. Recruitment information and applications for each project are available on the 50plus Portal. Gu Jong-won, Director of Welfare Planning at Seoul City, said, “Meaningful jobs provide the 50-plus generation with opportunities for social contribution and career exploration, and aim to improve quality of life through active social participation.” He added, “We hope that more middle-aged citizens will continue to play essential roles throughout society and create a meaningful second half of life by effectively utilizing their experience and capabilities.”
