[Asia Economy Reporter Kwak Minjae] Solar cell specialist SoftPV announced on the 14th that its product ‘SOLTRIA’ has advanced to the final round of the Edison Awards, the United States' top invention competition.

The Edison Awards is a global invention competition judged over seven months each year by a committee composed of thousands of industry experts and scholars. The products that reach the final round will be awarded gold, silver, and bronze medals in each category at the gala event held in Florida, USA, around the end of April.

SOLTRIA is the world's first three-dimensional spherical solar cell. The company explains that by developing leaf-shaped solar modules, it achieves world-class power generation per unit area. SoftPV received the Innovation Award in the Smart Energy category at the world's largest IT electronics exhibition, CES 2022, for SOLTRIA. This marks the second consecutive year of winning, following 2021.

Hyunwoo Ahn, CEO of SoftPV, said, “I would like to express my gratitude to the internal executives and employees, including CTO Seonggyu Lee, who have devoted their best efforts to product development, as well as to those who have provided advice and encouragement,” adding, “We will complete preparations to begin full-scale production of the product within one to two years.”
