[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] Go Minjung, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, criticized Lee Jun-seok, the leader of the People Power Party, on the 13th for his cynical response to Ahn Cheol-soo, the presidential candidate of the People Party, regarding the proposal for opposition party unification.

On the same day, Go shared an article related to Lee on her Facebook and wrote, "Lee's attitude towards candidate Ahn: sarcasm, mockery, and disregard," adding, "It's embarrassing to watch from the side."

Earlier that day, candidate Ahn held a press conference via YouTube, stating, "For a better regime change, that is, to end the old system and pursue national unity, I propose unification of opposition candidates."

He emphasized, "Unification of candidates for a better regime change is not about who becomes the candidate, but 'what the unification is for' is important," and officially proposed a unification method based on a national primary through public opinion polls.

He added, "Opposition candidate unification should be a coalition and alliance for moving toward the future," and "It must encompass the vision of regime change, political change, and era change, and the result must lead to an overwhelming victory."

After candidate Ahn's press conference, Lee posted a brief message on his Facebook, saying, "I thought it might be so, and it was indeed so," along with a photo of a sculpture depicting Son Goku inside the Buddha's palm.

Lee then posted again, criticizing Ahn by saying, "You turn on Naver every day and only search your own name, so it seems like the world revolves around you and only talks about unification."

He sarcastically added, "What can you share with someone who acts as if giving others 15 seconds to speak in a debate is a great favor?"

Meanwhile, Yoon Seok-youl, the People Power Party's presidential candidate, gave a positive evaluation of the opposition unification proposal but expressed regret regarding the 'public opinion poll national primary' method suggested by candidate Ahn.

On the same day, after meeting with former U.S. Vice President Mike Pence at the Lotte Signiel Seoul Hotel in Songpa-gu, Seoul, Yoon told reporters, "I positively evaluate the proposal as a matter of principle for regime change," but added, "I heard about the public opinion poll, and while I will consider it, there are some regrets."

When asked specifically what those regrets were, he replied, "I will not give a detailed answer."
