Beware of Wildfires in Dry Spring Weather

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Chang-woo Lee) is making every effort to prevent forest fires through the '2022 Spring Forest Fire Prevention Comprehensive Plan.'

The district has established and is operating a 'Forest Fire Prevention Countermeasures Headquarters' (hereinafter referred to as the Headquarters), led by the mayor, during the 104-day spring forest fire caution period from February 1 to May 15. They have prepared to ensure rapid initial firefighting in case a forest fire occurs.

The Headquarters is composed of 275 ground and auxiliary firefighting personnel, including the chief, controllers, and officers, and will be on emergency duty without breaks on weekends and holidays.

In the event of a forest fire, the firefighting team will respond with a total of 244 firefighting equipment items, including firefighting vehicles and backpack pumps, and will cooperate closely with related organizations such as Dongjak Fire Station, military units, and the police station to quickly extinguish the fire on site.

Since 2017, the district has separately organized a 'Specialized Forest Fire Prevention Firefighting Team,' which patrols key areas during normal times and conducts ground firefighting activities during emergencies to prevent forest fires in advance.

Additionally, during the countermeasure period, the district operates forest fire monitoring posts at three locations: Seodalsan, Guksabong, and Kkachisan Neighborhood Parks; conducts joint drills with Dongjak Fire Station in March; and carries out monthly forest fire prevention promotions and campaigns.

Since March 2006, through continuous forest fire prevention measures, Dongjak-gu has not experienced a single forest fire damage case in the past 10 years.

For more details, inquiries can be made to the Parks and Greenery Division.

Kim Won-sik, head of the Parks and Greenery Division, stated, "We will do our best to protect residents' precious lives and property through forest fire prevention activities," and added, "Currently, the Korea Forest Service has issued a national crisis alert for forest fire disasters at the 'Interest' level, and we ask for residents' active attention and participation in forest fire prevention."
