A Heartwarming Love Story of Old Age: Play 'Jangsu Sanghoe' Performance

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Nowon-gu (District Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it will present the prestigious Korean play "Jangsu Sanghoe," a representative masterpiece of Korea, at the Nowon Culture and Arts Center on the 19th.

The play "Jangsu Sanghoe," which attracted attention by adapting the 2016 film of the same name directed by Kang Je-gyu into a stage production, celebrates its 6th anniversary this year. It has been recognized for both artistic quality and popularity by theater enthusiasts during tours in Daehangno, the National Theater, as well as in 60 cities across Korea and Los Angeles, USA, and will now be performed on the stage of the Nowon Culture and Arts Center.

"Jangsu Sanghoe" is already a hot topic with the joint appearance of Korea's representative veteran actors Baek Il-seob and Son Sook. In addition, a large number of talented actors who have proven their acting skills across stage and screen, such as Lee Won-jae and Kim Na-yeon, will also appear.

Baek Il-seob plays Kim Seong-chil, a gruff elderly gentleman who is a long-time exemplary employee of Jangsu Sanghoe but inexperienced in romance, while Son Sook portrays Geum-nim, the shy yet confident flower shop owner who is like a young girl.

The performance begins as Geum-nim, a beautiful woman, opens a flower shop next door to Jangsu Sanghoe, where Seong-chil works, who lacks consideration and kindness but has a deep heart.

Despite Seong-chil's bluntness, Geum-nim always responds with a bright smile and suggests having dinner together. As their exciting meetings continue and they spend joyful and happy times, Seong-chil one day forgets an important promise with Geum-nim. The story unfolds as he learns of the painful yet beautiful secret that Geum-nim has been trying to protect.

The play not only tells a fresh and beautiful love story blossoming in old age but also conveys a message that makes the audience reflect on family affection and the value of life. It is a work that emotionally portrays romance filled with the excitement of first love at age 70 and warm family love, embracing all generations including children, lovers, couples, and parents.

Tickets can be purchased through the Nowon Cultural Foundation website and Interpark Ticket. All seats are priced at 30,000 KRW, with a 30% discount for paid members of the Nowon Cultural Foundation and a 20% discount for couples. In accordance with quarantine guidelines, seating will be arranged with one seat left empty between groups.

Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, said, "We aim to bring high-quality works to the Nowon Culture and Arts Center, a specialized cultural and artistic performance facility, to provide moving experiences to our residents," adding, "We will continue to strive to enable residents to experience diverse and excellent culture and arts within the region."
