US Solar Panel Company Requests Government to Impose Tariffs on Panels from Four Asian Countries

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Byung-hee] Bloomberg reported on the 9th (local time) that a U.S. solar panel manufacturer has requested the Department of Commerce to impose tariffs on solar panels produced in four Asian countries, including Malaysia.

Oxin Solar, a solar panel manufacturer based in San Jose, California, submitted an oval letter stating that China has shifted its production base to other Asian countries to manufacture solar panels. The four countries pointed out by Oxin Solar are Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia.

The U.S. government currently imposes anti-dumping tariffs on Chinese-made solar panels.

Oxin Solar claimed that Chinese companies are producing solar panels in other Asian countries to avoid tariffs and then exporting them to the U.S. duty-free.

Earlier, the U.S. government announced an extension of the tariff imposition on solar panels for another four years. However, this move drew opposition from small domestic solar companies seeking to reduce the tariff burden.
