Jeonnam Province Lays Foundation to Foster 'Ecological Education Cities' in 5 Municipalities

[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] A foundation has been laid for fostering the cities and counties of Suncheon, Naju, Hwasun, Haenam, and Gokseong?five regions with excellent ecological resources?into ecological education cities.

On the 10th, Jeonnam Province announced that two projects were selected in the Ministry of Education and the National Institute for Lifelong Education’s “2022 Lifelong Learning City Specialization Project” competition.

The Lifelong Learning City Specialization Project competition aims to enhance regional competitiveness through lifelong learning and to activate residents’ participation in lifelong learning.

Among 180 lifelong learning cities nationwide, the following were confirmed: the “Jeonnam-type Ecological Environment Education Program,” jointly promoted by the Jeonnam Talent Lifelong Education Promotion Institute and the four cities/counties of Suncheon, Naju, Hwasun, and Haenam; and Gokseong’s “Rich Natural Ecology Gokseong Job Project.”

The “Jeonnam-type Ecological Environment Education Program” is a project that provides ecological environment education centered on residents’ life stages and living areas after training professionals linked to the region’s eco-friendly infrastructure.

To this end, from March, the project plans to sequentially implement an ecological education city win-win development agreement, training of ecological environment education professionals (Eco Leaders), operation of learner-customized ecological environment education, ecological environment preservation practice campaigns, and activities for sharing and spreading achievements (Eco Festival).

Gokseong’s “Rich Natural Ecology Gokseong Job Project” operates ecological garden education courses and ecological play instructor training courses to not only activate lifelong education but also create local jobs.

A representative of the Jeonnam Talent Lifelong Education Promotion Institute said, “Taking this selection as an opportunity, we will spare no support and effort to create the Jeonnam-type lifelong education brand ‘Ecological Education City, Jeonnam,’ which preserves Jeonnam’s excellent ecological resources while contributing to regional development.”
