[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Sumi] A man in his 50s who sexually harassed a female restaurant employee and made derogatory remarks about her appearance was sentenced to a fine.
On the 1st, Judge Cho Sang-eun of the Uijeongbu District Court Criminal Division 11 sentenced Mr. A, a man in his 50s charged with forcible molestation and insult, to a fine of 5 million won.
He was also ordered to complete 40 hours of a sexual violence program and was banned from employment at child and youth-related institutions and welfare facilities for the disabled for three years each.
In March 2020, Mr. A forcibly molested a female employee in her 20s by repeatedly touching her chest with his hand while drinking at a restaurant in Gyeonggi Province.
The female employee, startled by Mr. A’s actions, immediately reported to the police. Upon learning this, Mr. A became angry and caused a disturbance in front of the restaurant owner and staff.
During this incident, he verbally abused the female employee, saying things like, "Why would I touch an ugly and fat XX?" and "You don’t even feel like a woman, XXX."
Mr. A denied the charges, but CCTV footage inside the restaurant captured his molestation, and audio files confirmed his insulting remarks.
The court stated, "Considering the serious nature of the crime, the defendant’s denial of the charges and lack of sincere remorse, and the fact that he was not forgiven by the victim, we comprehensively took all sentencing factors into account in determining the sentence."
