[Asia Economy Reporter Na Ye-eun] Actor Kang Seok-woo (65) announced that he will step down from his radio show, which he had hosted for six years, after experiencing vision deterioration following his third COVID-19 vaccine dose.
Kang Seok-woo revealed on the December 27th episode of CBS Radio Music FM's "Kang Seok-woo's Beautiful You" that it would be his final broadcast.
He stated, "After receiving the third COVID-19 vaccine dose, the vision in one eye gradually worsened, making it difficult to read text on the monitor screen. Although I am quitting this show, you will still be able to see my voice and face through other media."
He added, "Thanks to all the listeners, I was able to gain courage. I will strive to live as a better person. I am grateful to everyone who has been with me for over six years."
In addition to vision deterioration, Kang also reported experiencing floaters. Floaters are symptoms where one feels as if dust or small insects are floating before the eyes.
Posting the final part of the broadcast on Instagram, Kang told a staff member who said "Don't cry," "Then, the listeners will cry a lot," and added, "I want to take a break for about three to four months with a clear mind."
Kang Seok-woo debuted in 1987 with the film "Yeosu" and had been hosting "Kang Seok-woo's Beautiful You" since 2015.
Meanwhile, according to the U.S. Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS), as of December 18 last year, 9,531 Americans reported blurred vision and 311 reported vision loss. In South Korea, 623 suspected vaccine side effect reports related to vision deterioration were filed as of October 31 last year. However, health authorities currently maintain that there is no causal relationship between vaccination and vision deterioration.
