[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] The 2021 wage negotiations between Hyundai Heavy Industries labor and management appear to have failed to reach an agreement before the Lunar New Year holiday, following the delay past last year.
On the 28th, according to Hyundai Heavy Industries labor and management, the 31st round of 2021 wage negotiations was held at the Ulsan headquarters on the 27th.
The union demanded a thorough analysis of the cause of the employee death accident that occurred on the 24th and measures to prevent recurrence.
They also proposed reaching an agreement as soon as possible, considering that Hyundai Mipo Dockyard, a group affiliate, concluded its wage negotiations before the Lunar New Year.
Since labor and management must prepare a tentative agreement and conduct a vote among union members, even if a tentative agreement is reached on this last day before the Lunar New Year holiday, it is practically difficult to finalize the deal before the holiday.
The company side is focusing discussions on the contentious issues of wages and performance bonuses and is requesting the union to withdraw demands on current issues such as group-wide joint negotiations and reinstatement of dismissed workers.
As the negotiations did not reach an agreement on this day, it is known that the union has set a plan to begin full-scale struggle procedures after the Lunar New Year holiday.
Hyundai Heavy Industries labor and management entered wage negotiations in August last year and held more than 30 rounds of talks over six months but failed to find common ground.
