‘Work and Joy in a City of Dignity, Gijang’ … Gijang-gun Completes 2040 Long-term Development Plan Establishment Project

‘Work and Joy in a City of Dignity, Gijang’ … Gijang-gun Completes 2040 Long-term Development Plan Establishment Project Gijang County Office.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] Busan Gijang-gun has finalized the ‘2040 Long-term Development Plan Establishment Service.’

Gijang-gun conducted the service through the Busan Research Institute Foundation for 1 year and 3 months starting from September 2020, and completed it after holding a final briefing session for Gijang-gun executives and county council members in December of last year.

The service was promoted to establish a mid- to long-term comprehensive plan looking into Gijang’s future and to lay the foundation for regional development in response to changes in population structure and social conditions.

By reflecting higher-level plans promoted by the government and Busan City, it was also possible to establish a plan with mutual connectivity.

The urban vision of the ‘2040 Long-term Development Plan’ was set as ‘Gijang, a dignified city with work and enjoyment,’ and the planning goals were set as ‘a research hub city fostering new growth industries,’ ‘a tourism and leisure city with enjoyment and relaxation,’ ‘a city safe from disasters,’ and ‘an inclusive city guaranteeing quality of life.’

The planned population for 2040 was set at 230,000, predicting a gradual population increase despite the overall population decline trend in non-metropolitan cities including Busan, and major projects were derived to lead dignified and planned urban growth.

The major projects include ▲ creation of a premium healing road pedestrian path ▲ activation plans for Ilgwang Amusement Park and Gijang Ceramic Tourism Healing Village ▲ development of premium residential complexes ▲ strengthening of core functions behind industrial complexes ▲ reorganization of a rail-centered public transportation system, totaling 10 key projects across various fields such as tourism, housing, industry, and transportation.

Oh Gyu-seok, Gijang-gun governor, said, “We revised and supplemented the 2030 Long-term Development Plan established in 2012 and established the 2040 Long-term Development Plan to envision the future of Gijang-gun in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution.”

Governor Oh added, “We will actively strive to ensure that our Gijang-gun leads Busan in the future and becomes a representative, livable premium city in Korea.”
