[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Kwon Haeyoung] Korea Western Power has strengthened communication with partner companies in the field of on-site safety to eradicate serious accidents.
Western Power announced on the 28th that President Park Hyungdeok conducted a 'CEO On-site Safety Inspection' targeting the Gimpo Construction Headquarters, West Incheon Power Headquarters, and Pyeongtaek Power Headquarters over two days starting from the 27th. This inspection is part of the special safety inspection measures for public institutions under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
Ahead of the enforcement of the Serious Accident Punishment Act, Western Power proactively conducted 'Visiting CEO Partner Company Safety Consulting' at Taean Thermal Power Plant, the largest single domestic power plant site, starting from the 17th. Given the large scale of the site, the CEO personally visited partner company work sites to inspect and listen to the difficulties and suggestions of partner company workers.
On the 27th, coinciding with the enforcement of the Serious Accident Punishment Act, President Park personally conducted safety inspections at Gimpo and West Incheon Power Headquarters. He toured hazardous locations with a high likelihood of safety accidents at each business site and focused on inspecting equipment vulnerable to safety issues. He also visited the Gimpo Combined Heat and Power Plant site, which is currently under construction, to focus on the pre-removal of potential risks at subcontracted and ordered project sites. In particular, he encouraged the active use of the 'Worker's Right to Stop Work' system, which allows workers to refuse work if safety is not ensured.
Western Power is implementing a 'Safety Rating System' to build a safe working environment on site, promoting healthy safety competition to improve the safety management level of partner companies. For daily workers, who are major accident victims, Western Power has been conducting pre-work education and management during work to prevent accidents. At the same time, President Park actively accepted partner companies' requests such as ▲improvement of office spaces ▲mental health education support for on-site workers ▲accounting safety management costs above the statutory rate ▲rental of high-priced safety equipment, enabling partner company employees to work in a safe and pleasant environment.
President Park said, "We will further strengthen the safety and health management system to ensure that serious accidents do not occur and do our best to fulfill the obligations to secure safety and health." He added, "We will actively accept partner companies' safety requests and create a workplace where power plant workers can work safely and healthily."
