Suwon City Expands Housing Benefit Recipients' Median Income Threshold from 45% to 46%

Suwon City Expands Housing Benefit Recipients' Median Income Threshold from 45% to 46% Suwon City Hall

[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The median income standard for housing benefit recipients in Suwon City, Gyeonggi Province, has been expanded to 46% this year, increasing the number of eligible recipients and the amount of housing benefits.

On the 26th, Suwon City announced that the selection criteria for housing benefit recipients have changed from 45% of the median income last year to 46% this year.

Housing benefits are a program that supports housing expenses and household repair and maintenance costs.

With the expansion of the housing benefit selection criteria, the recognized income amount for a four-person household increased from 2,194,331 KRW in 2021 to 2,355,697 KRW this year.

The minimum guaranteed standard rent, which is the upper limit for benefit payments to rental households, has also been fully realized at 100%, increasing both the number of recipients and the amount of housing benefits.

The monthly housing benefit amount for a four-person household will increase from a maximum of 371,000 KRW to a maximum of 391,000 KRW.

The age criterion for the 'Youth Housing Benefit Separate Payment' introduced last year will be adjusted from 'age 19 birth date' to 'birth year.' However, for those excluded from payment at age 30, the birth month will be applied.

The Youth Housing Benefit Separate Payment is a system that separately provides housing benefits to unmarried children aged 19 to under 30 who live apart from their parents for purposes such as schooling or job seeking, and whose resident registration address differs from their parents' (in a different city or county).

A city official stated, "With the expansion of the housing benefit recipients and amounts, more citizens will receive benefits, and the housing cost burden on vulnerable groups will decrease. We will also re-verify the eligibility of existing housing benefit recipient households and those who were previously excluded."

Applications for housing benefit support can be made by visiting the administrative welfare center of the resident registration address neighborhood or through the Bokjiro website.

Meanwhile, since Suwon City was designated as a special city, the 'basic property amount' standard used when selecting recipients of the National Basic Livelihood Security has been upgraded to 'metropolitan city' level, the same as special and metropolitan cities, greatly increasing the welfare benefits available to Suwon citizens.
