According to foreign media including AFP on the 24th (local time), at least eight people, including one child, were crushed to death in a scuffle at the entrance as people tried to enter quickly at the Olembe Stadium in Yaound?, the capital of Cameroon.


The stadium was scheduled to host the round of 16 match of the Africa Cup of Nations soccer tournament. Videos showing people clashing at the stadium entrance and screams being heard were posted on social media platforms.


The organizers recently opened the main gate of the stadium to allow free admission and even provided transportation to increase attendance rates, but the crowd surged all at once, leading to the accident.


About 50 people injured in the crush were transported to nearby hospitals and are receiving treatment.
