Increased Coverage Amount for Agricultural Machinery Accident Injury Death and Sequelae to 30 Million Won

[Hampyeong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Hampyeong County has increased the compensation amount for injury death and aftereffects disability caused by agricultural machinery accidents, which frequently occur in rural areas, to 30 million won, enabling farmers who suffer unexpected accidents to receive substantial compensation.

In particular, this year, two items?bicycle injury death and injury aftereffects disability?have been added, expanding the coverage from the previous 19 types to 21 types.

On the 25th, Hampyeong County in Jeollanam-do announced that it will expand the citizen safety insurance, which covers all residents of the county, starting from the 1st of this month.

Citizen safety insurance is a system that pays insurance benefits to residents who suffer death or aftereffects disability due to various disasters, accidents, or crimes.

The support target includes all residents registered in Hampyeong County (including registered foreigners), who are automatically enrolled without any separate procedures, and are automatically withdrawn upon moving to another region. The county fully covers the insurance premiums.

The main coverage items, including the two newly added, are ▲death from natural disasters ▲death and aftereffects disability from explosion, fire, or collapse ▲death and aftereffects disability while using public transportation ▲death and aftereffects disability from hit-and-run or uninsured vehicle accidents ▲death and aftereffects disability from robbery ▲death by drowning accident ▲injury treatment for school zone traffic accidents ▲missing person search support fund ▲injury of persons of merit ▲death and aftereffects disability from agricultural machinery accidents ▲death and aftereffects disability from gas accidents ▲death from infectious diseases ▲death from wild animal damage, totaling 21 items.

Residents who suffer damage from these items can claim insurance benefits from the Korea Local Finance Association within three years from the date of the accident, and after review, receive the insurance payout.

However, death of persons under 15 years old is excluded from coverage according to Article 732 of the Commercial Act.

A county official said, “We hope that this expansion of citizen safety insurance will help stabilize the lives of our residents, even if just a little.”
