“How important the environment is. It is more important than the economy. It is that important. It is more precious than jewels. Tigers are watching, and the sun is watching too. Please take care of the Earth this time. (An acrostic poem for 'Protect the Environment' in 7 lines)” (Seo Do-yeon, 1st grade, Sea Elementary School)
“What kind of future are you planning? Surely, I believe you have planned a very wonderful future. But will the Earth be there in that future?” (Shin Ye-seong, 6th grade, Ujang Elementary School)
“I live in Busan. If the Earth's temperature rises by 1.5 degrees, the Busan I love will be submerged. So please use eco-friendly energy instead of oil and coal. I beg you.” (Kim Myung-jin, 6th grade, Goejeong Elementary School)
The international environmental organization Greenpeace held a performance on the 25th in front of Gwanghwamun, Jongno-gu, Seoul, delivering handwritten letters appealing for climate crisis response written by children to the presidential candidates of the four major parties (Lee Jae-myung of the Democratic Party, Yoon Seok-youl of the People Power Party, Sim Sang-jung of the Justice Party, Ahn Cheol-soo of the People’s Party). The organization plans to deliver over 14,000 letters to the presidential candidates and receive replies to send back to the students. The letters contain the students’ awareness of the climate crisis in their daily lives and their hopes for active responses from the next president. Here are photos from the event.
