[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea, said, "If I lose the presidential election, it seems they will fabricate crimes and put me in prison." On the 23rd, former Minister of Justice Choo Mi-ae expressed sympathy, saying, "It's not an unfounded statement."

Former Minister Choo wrote on her Facebook that "If the couple Yoon Seok-yeol and Kim Gun-hee win the presidential election, a terrifying situation will occur where they use prosecutorial power to maintain their power and cover up their wrongdoings."

She cited part of the Kim Gun-hee audio recordings recently reported by MBC, pointing out, "They are a frightening couple involved in manipulation. During the 2020 prosecution-media collusion and the case of fabricated accusations, Kim Gun-hee and Han Dong-hoon reportedly had nine phone calls over four months and exchanged 332 KakaoTalk messages over three months."

In the recordings, Kim Gun-hee is said to have stated, "(If there is something to report) I will send you the contact information, so do it there. I will tell Han Dong-hoon to pass it on. It has to be done secretly. Be careful with your words, and be very cautious wherever you go."

Former Minister Choo criticized, "Candidate Yoon Seok-yeol has a wife who, even though her husband has already left the prosecution, freely calls the names of high-ranking prosecutors currently in office like a housekeeper running errands and commands them."

She added, "Yoon Seok-yeol’s faction has not left the prosecution and remains, waiting for the birth of a prosecution regime," and claimed, "They are not properly investigating various allegations against Kim Gun-hee."

Earlier, on the 22nd, candidate Lee gave an impromptu speech beside Seokchon Lake in Songpa-gu, Seoul, saying, "The fear of the prosecution republic is not just the sound of passing wind but a reality confronting us," and "If I lose this time, it seems they will fabricate crimes and put me in prison."

He continued, "Throughout my life, I have clashed with and been attacked by many vested interests, but I was not afraid," adding, "But now I am afraid. I believe the prosecution is an organization that can overturn existing crimes and fabricate nonexistent crimes."
