[Asia Economy Reporter Jo Yujin] Amid additional attack threats from the Yemeni Houthi rebels (self-proclaimed Ansar Allah), the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has banned the flight of unregistered drones.
On the 22nd (local time), according to the state-run WAM news agency, the UAE Ministry of Interior announced in a statement, "For the next month, the operation of drones for hobby purposes and unregistered small personal aircraft is completely prohibited."
The Ministry of Interior added, "Commercial flying objects or airborne advertisements must also obtain permission from aviation authorities."
The Yemeni rebels attacked Abu Dhabi International Airport and oil facilities using drones and other means on the 17th.
After the Saudi Arabia-led Arab coalition intensified its offensive, the rebels threatened to launch additional attacks on the UAE.
The UAE is participating in the Saudi-led Arab coalition in the Yemeni civil war.
The Yemeni civil war, which began in 2014, has evolved into a proxy war between Iran and Saudi Arabia.
As of the end of last year, the United Nations estimated the direct and indirect death toll from the Yemeni civil war at 377,000.
