Daegu City Council's New Year On-Site Review Begins at K-2 Former Base... "Key Projects That Will Determine Daegu's Future"

Daegu City Council's New Year On-Site Review Begins at K-2 Former Base... "Key Projects That Will Determine Daegu's Future" Chairman Jang Sang-su and the Daegu City Council visited the former K-2 site on the 20th as their first field communication activity of the new year.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] The Daegu City Council visited the K-2 former site on the 20th as its first on-site communication activity of 2022.

Chairman Jang Sang-su, along with Councilor Kim Jae-woo, the head of Daegu City Integrated New Airport Construction Headquarters, the former site development division chief, and the K-2 former site chief planner headed to the site.

They visited with a New Year's resolution to take the lead in ‘people-centered, field-centered’ legislative activities by closely examining every corner of citizens' living environments and finding answers on-site.

The K-2 former site development project is a plan to transform the 7.10㎢ area of the K-2 military airport and Daegu International Airport site into a new growth hub for Daegu.

By March this year, a basic comprehensive plan for the former site will be established, and from April, a ‘master plan advancement (detailed) service’ will be implemented to develop detailed plans by sector.

The gathered members at the site assessed the progress of the K-2 former site development project and exchanged views on the development direction before establishing specific development plans.

They agreed that the K-2 former site is a valuable asset for Daegu's future and voiced that maximizing development profits to cover relocation costs should not be the goal of the project.

They emphasized the need to devise innovative development plans that avoid repeating similar new town development projects and utilize the site as a future strategic resource driving the development of surrounding areas and Daegu.

They pointed out that the donation-for-transfer business method imposes a huge burden on the poor local finances and fundamentally blocks the public and future-oriented use of the former site, calling for national financial support and revision of the Military Airport Relocation Act.

The City Council plans to join forces with local political circles to include the revision of the Military Airport Relocation Act and expansion of national funding in the presidential election pledges and focus on developing the K-2 former site into a new growth hub.

Chairman Jang Sang-su said, “Daegu's future depends on how efficiently the K-2 former site development is carried out,” adding, “Let us do our best to make it the center of the southern inland region by linking it with key areas such as Daegu Innovation City and Dongdaegu Venture Valley, and envisioning a mega project that encompasses adjacent resources like Palgongsan and Kumho River.”
