[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Se-ryeong Lee] The Residents' Autonomy Committee made its debut in Hwajeong-myeon, Uiryeong-gun, Gyeongnam.
On the 19th, Hwajeong-myeon held a Residents' Autonomy Committee member appointment and launch ceremony at the Hwajeong Complex Cultural Center to officially announce the launch of the Residents' Autonomy Committee.
The launch ceremony was prepared to raise the pride of the committee members and widely share the new beginning before the full-scale activities of the Residents' Autonomy Committee, encouraging resident participation.
The Residents' Autonomy Committee overcomes the limitations of the existing Residents' Autonomy Committee, which was limited to advisory roles on eup, myeon, and dong administration, by becoming the highest decision-making body where local residents themselves identify village issues and resolve them through residents' general meetings and participatory budgeting.
Since September last year, Uiryeong-gun has operated a visiting Residents' Autonomy School and has completed the transition to Residents' Autonomy Committees in Uiryeong-eup, Hwajeong-myeon, and Yongdeok-myeon. Starting next year, it plans to expand and promote this to all eup and myeon.
Since January this year, a Residents' Autonomy Special Project contest has been underway for all Residents' Autonomy Committees to achieve practical resident autonomy. It plans to actively support bottom-up resident participation projects where residents themselves participate from discovering unique projects to project implementation.
A county official said, "The residents of Hwajeong-myeon have been reborn as the owners of the region," adding, "The Residents' Autonomy Committee will breathe life into this birth."
County Governor Oh Tae-wan said, "The Residents' Autonomy Committee will serve as the pinnacle of bottom-up resident participation and strengthen communication channels with the county residents," and added, "We will make grassroots democracy of resident autonomy the nourishment for Uiryeong's development."
