Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority Signs Agreement with Yeosu Harbor Pilots Association to Attract Containers

Temporary Pilotage Fee Discount to Boost European Container Service Activation

Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority Signs Agreement with Yeosu Harbor Pilots Association to Attract Containers

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority (President Park Seong-hyun) announced on the 20th that it has signed a business agreement with the Yeosu Port Pilots Association (Chairman Im Hyeong-do) to support pilotage fee discounts to revitalize European container services at Gwangyang Port.

At the signing ceremony, the Authority and the Yeosu Port Pilots Association agreed to provide pilotage fee discounts for one year to newly deployed vessels on European routes entering Gwangyang Port.

Until now, Gwangyang Port has imposed surcharged pilotage fees on large vessels of 130,000 tons or more due to the high difficulty of entry and exit, and the longer pilotage distance compared to other ports caused difficulties during port calls.

This agreement to resolve such difficulties applies to vessels of 110,000 tons or more, and the vessels entering Gwangyang Port will receive differentiated pilotage fee discounts according to vessel size for one year from the first port call date.

In particular, when vessels of 130,000 tons or more enter, the discount rate reaches up to 30%, allowing shipping companies to save up to 240 million KRW annually.

President Park Seong-hyun said, “Through this agreement, we will strive to establish a foundation for expanding European route container services and strengthen the port connectivity of Gwangyang Port.”
