[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] ‘Gyeol’. The state or pattern of a woven base formed by the combination of the hard and soft parts of an organization. This is the dictionary definition of gyeol.
The grain of light, the grain of wind, the grain of water flow, the grain of wood. Nature has grain. The same goes for objects. Beyond the dictionary meaning, gyeol can bring peace to the viewer or sometimes create a sense of urgency.
The same applies to artworks. When painting with a brush, the grain remains. These grains come together one by one to complete a work.
An exhibition expressing the grain of nature and hoping that viewers will shine brightly like stars through works related to stars and the universe is attracting attention.
Artist Park Rahee’s solo exhibition themed ‘The Grain of Color’ is being held at Artimu Gallery in Nongsung-dong, Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, until March 5. It showcases 37 works (36 paintings and 1 installation piece).
The works use water-based acrylic paints that the artist personally prefers and suits well. Instead of painting one piece on a single canvas, each piece is painted separately and arranged with a certain space between them. In this seemingly concealed space, viewers can use their imagination to complete the painting.
The main piece, ‘The Peaceful Place’, was carefully arranged. Instead of a flat layout, it is arranged in an ‘L’ shape so that the sense of space changes depending on the viewing angle.
There is no person in the artwork. The artist intends for the viewer to enter that space and feel it directly. As the word ‘peaceful’ suggests, one can feel joy and relaxation in a quiet and calm place.
A lighting fixture symbolizing the sun is installed at the bottom right of the artwork, paying attention to delicate details so that it looks like sunset or evokes warmth depending on the viewing angle.
A solo exhibition by artist Park Rahee, titled "The Texture of Color," is being held at Artimu Gallery in Nongsung-dong, Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, until March 5. The photo shows an installation piece expressing "texture" using fabric.
In the middle of the exhibition space, white fabric and lighting are used to express the main theme of this exhibition, ‘gyeol’. The gentle grain naturally created as the heater wind from the ceiling touches the fabric comforts the viewers’ hearts.
The sub-theme of this solo exhibition is ‘the universe’. Park’s works often depict natural objects. Before creating works, she travels to capture the ‘healing’ received from nature in her art.
The universe-themed works presented this time were created by dotting stars one by one using very thin brushes, sizes 00 and 1. These works reveal the artist’s concentration and delicacy.
Not only focusing on the dreamy atmosphere of the universe, but also expressing animals such as the tiger and rabbit of the Im In year wearing spacesuits and leisurely swimming in space, showing a charming touch.
Park says her most focused time is late at night until dawn, and she was influenced by the stars visible in the night sky during this time for these works.
Having just turned thirty this year, this is her fourth solo exhibition. She has also stood out in domestic and international competitions, winning the Excellence Award in the Western Painting category at the 54th Jeonnam Provincial Art Exhibition and the Grand Prize at the 13th Korea Watercolor Contest.
Park says that every time she creates art and at the start of each new year, she makes a resolution in her heart.
She wants to paint pictures that maintain a fairy-tale or dreamy feeling as she ages, without losing it, and that bring comfort to the viewers’ hearts.
