Jeollanam-do City and County Main Road Research and Development Project Selected
[Goheung=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shim Jeong-woo] Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 18th that it has been selected for the first city/county-led R&D project of 2022, promoted by Jeollanam-do, and will receive 30 million won in provincial funding.
The R&D planning project promoted by Jeollanam-do aims to discover future new growth engine R&D projects for Jeonnam. It prioritizes support for projects such as attracting national research institutes, large-scale R&D projects, Korea New Deal and Blue Economy linked projects, and responding to national plan confirmations and ministry budget reflections.
Goheung-gun, under the theme of developing a domestic model for drone parts, will conduct research planning for eight months starting from February this year with Jeonnam Technopark, the dedicated institution for the city/county-led R&D project. To establish a domestic production infrastructure for drone parts, it plans to propose a national budget request to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy for 2023.
The drone industry has grown 6.5 times from 70.4 billion won in 2016 to 459.5 billion won in 2020, thanks to government promotion efforts. However, the localization rate of drone parts in public and civilian sectors is still below 40%.
An official from the county stated, “Domestic drone companies rely on importing drone parts from China, which is a national-level issue that must be resolved. We will promote the city/county-led R&D project focusing on core drone parts and continue to request national budgets to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, striving to establish a domestic production base for drone parts near the Goheung Drone Center.”
