COVID-19 Trends Examined: Payments to Begin After Seollal Holiday

<Mokpo City Delays Disaster Relief Fund Distribution Amid 'COVID-19 Spread Concerns'>

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Jeong Seunghyun] Mokpo City in Jeollanam-do announced on the 20th that it will postpone the timing of the second disaster relief fund payment.

Originally, the city planned to distribute disaster relief funds to all citizens on the 24th, before the Lunar New Year holiday, but due to concerns about additional infections amid the current spread of COVID-19 in the region, the decision to postpone was made inevitably.

Meanwhile, for 30,000 recipients of basic pensions and disability pensions, 100,000 KRW in cash will be paid collectively to their pension receiving accounts by the end of this month without a separate application.

However, the payment timing for the remaining citizens will be decided after monitoring the COVID-19 spread trends, likely after the Lunar New Year holiday.

Although the city considered proceeding with the disaster relief fund payment as planned to revitalize the local economy ahead of the Lunar New Year, prevention of spread, citizen safety, and the effectiveness of the temporary pause campaign were prioritized, leading to this adjustment.

A city official stated, “We ask for the understanding of all citizens regarding the unavoidable adjustment of the payment timing due to the severe COVID-19 situation.”

Additionally, the recipients of this disaster relief fund are all Mokpo City residents registered as of January 3rd, including some foreigners, and 100,000 KRW per person will be paid via the local love card to boost the local economy.
