[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] Jindo County, Jeollanam-do announced on the 20th that it will provide an emergency disaster relief fund of 200,000 KRW to all residents before the Lunar New Year holiday, as the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic has caused economic stagnation in the region and increased difficulties in the lives of county residents.

Jindo County and the Jindo County Council decided to invest 6.2 billion KRW to provide the emergency disaster relief fund to comfort the hearts of residents who are struggling and exhausted due to COVID-19 and to revive the stagnant local economy.

The recipients of the emergency disaster relief fund are all Jindo residents and registered foreigners who have their address in Jindo County as of January 19, 2022.

Park Geum-rye, Chairperson of the Jindo County Council, said, “We expect that the emergency disaster relief fund, which will be provided before the Lunar New Year holiday, will contribute to stabilizing the lives of residents who are facing difficulties due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and to revitalizing the local economy.”

The application period is from January 25 to March 25. By submitting an ID and application form to the local town or township office of their address, each person can receive 200,000 KRW worth of Jindo Arirang gift certificates, a local currency.

The county expects to prevent the outflow of local funds, increase income for small business owners and self-employed individuals, and achieve a virtuous cycle effect that revitalizes the local economy.

In particular, to facilitate convenience for residents, county officials will conduct visiting reception and payment services at village halls starting from 10 a.m. on January 24.

A county official stated, “We will continue to strive to alleviate the economic difficulties of residents struggling due to COVID-19,” and urged, “Please strictly follow quarantine rules such as the ban on private gatherings of six or more people, mandatory mask-wearing, and social distancing. Especially, as the Omicron variant is rapidly spreading in the Jeonnam area, we ask you to refrain from visiting other regions and to participate in additional vaccination.”

Meanwhile, the Jindo County Council held the 276th extraordinary session on the 19th and approved the first supplementary budget for 2022 to provide emergency disaster relief funds to all residents.
