Immediate Resignation Demanded for Jo Haeju
Park Beomgye and Minister Jeon Haecheol Should Also Be Replaced
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] The People Power Party criticized the report that President Moon Jae-in rejected the resignation of Cho Hae-joo, a standing member of the Central Election Commission, whose term had expired, calling it a "Blue House's trick to control the Election Commission."
On the 19th, Floor Leader Kim held an emergency press conference at the National Assembly and pointed out, "Commissioner Cho's resignation was rejected despite the expiration of his term, allowing him to maintain a non-standing three-year position," adding, "This is an unprecedented and outrageous act never seen before in history."
He said, "Commissioner Cho, who was a special advisor for the Moon Jae-in campaign, faced fairness issues from the beginning, and after becoming a standing member, he abandoned fairness and was identified as the person who turned the Election Commission into the 'Moon Commission.'"
He continued, saying that among the eight Election Commissioners, including Chairperson Noh Jeong-hee, seven are all pro-Administration, and urged the Democratic Party to "immediately remove Commissioner Cho Hae-joo, whose term has ended, and proceed with the approval process for the election of Moon Sang-bu, the non-standing commissioner recommended by the opposition party."
Floor Leader Kim added that if the Blue House continues to maintain the current composition of the Election Commission, "we will use all legal and political means to point out and demand corrective measures."
He also criticized the appointments in the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. Floor Leader Kim said, "The Minister of Justice, the main ministry in charge of elections, is a three-term lawmaker from the Democratic Party, and the Minister of the Interior and Safety is also a three-term Democratic Party lawmaker," pointing out, "In previous governments, there has never been a case where both the Minister of Justice and the Minister of the Interior and Safety were incumbent lawmakers during the election period."
He then stated, "President Moon should immediately replace Minister of Justice Park Beom-gye and Minister of the Interior and Safety Jeon Hae-cheol and demand the formation of a neutral cabinet during the election."
