[Gochang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeonbuk Gochang-gun announced on the 18th that it is promoting various educational support projects, including providing university admission congratulatory money (up to 1 million KRW per person) and school bag purchase expenses (worth 100,000 KRW) as part of the initiative to "raise people who cultivate children well."
The school bag purchase expenses will be accepted through the Eup/Myeon Administrative Welfare Centers until the 11th of next month, and the university admission congratulatory money until the 21st of next month.
The support targets are those who are currently (as of January 1) registered residents of the county and are new students entering elementary schools in the Gochang area.
After receiving the application forms, the county plans to verify enrollment status with local elementary schools and individually pay the amount to the applicant's account in March.
The university admission congratulatory money recipients are those who are entering university this year and whose or their guardians' resident registration is currently in the county.
Eligibility includes those who graduated from high schools within Gochang-gun and entered university (including 2-year colleges) within 3 years, or those who have been registered residents of Gochang-gun for more than one year, passed the high school equivalency exam, and entered university (including 2-year colleges) within 3 years.
The congratulatory money is paid differentially at 1 million KRW, 700,000 KRW, or 500,000 KRW according to the length of residence in Gochang-gun.
A county official said, "We will continue to promote policies to raise people who cultivate children well, strengthen educational competitiveness, and do our best to support educational welfare for nurturing local talents."
