Korea Tourism Organization Publishes Booklet Analyzing Successful Overseas Cases of 'ESG Tourism'

[Asia Economy Reporter Donghyun Choi] The Korea Tourism Organization announced on the 18th that it has published a book titled "There is a Reason for Rising Tourism - All About ESG Tourism," which compiles ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) tourism trends, gaining global attention, based on direct coverage from its overseas branches.

In the era of carbon neutrality, ESG has emerged as an essential survival strategy for companies. The tourism industry, which accounts for 8% of global greenhouse gas emissions, is no exception. This book, which compiles local ESG tourism success cases directly investigated by 31 overseas branches of the Tourism Organization, is expected to provide many insights to governments, local governments, regional tourism organizations, and industries promoting ESG in the tourism sector.

The 31 cases are divided into three categories: eco-friendly travel (Environment), community-based travel (Social), and government policy and system improvement (Governance). From the Disney theme park environmental protection project in Shanghai, China, to the sustainable travel program development policy utilizing the Label system in Paris, France, the book reveals how various countries faithfully practice ESG and wisely solve problems in tourism sites.

The book is available at bookstores nationwide, both offline and online.

Kim Kwan-mi, head of the International Tourism Strategy Team at the Korea Tourism Organization, said, "For the establishment of ESG practices in tourism sites, broad consensus among stakeholders, strategic cooperation between the public and private sectors, and active participation of tourists are necessary," adding, "We hope this will be a practical help in preparing ESG tourism practice plans for industry stakeholders."
