[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Sang-hyun] The ‘Changwon Marine Drama Set,’ a representative landmark of Changwon City, Gyeongnam, is being renovated.
On the 17th, Changwon City, Gyeongnam announced that the ‘Marine Drama Set Remodeling Project’ and the ‘Wave Sound Trail Safety Exploration Path Construction Project’ were selected for the 2022 Tourism Resource Development Balanced Development Special Account Local Transfer Project.
This month, the city will invest a total of 3.8 billion KRW to remodel major facilities around the Marine Drama Set located in Seokgok-ri, Gusan-myeon, Masanhappo-gu, and create a coastal exploration path around Myeongju Village where the set is located. The project is scheduled to be completed by December 2023.
The marine set, created in 2010 during the filming of the drama ‘Kim Su-ro,’ meticulously reproduces the atmosphere of the Gaya period, including the old harbor where ships came and went, the marketplace street, and stilt houses.
As a rare seaside set in Korea, more than 65 films and dramas have been shot here so far. Near the set, there is a 1.7 km Wave Sound Trail along a pine forest path overlooking the coastal scenery.
Through this project, worn parts of major filming facilities such as the Gimhae Hall, the pier, and the marketplace street within the set will be refurbished, and a new ship featured in the maritime trade scenes of the drama will be built to create a safer and more diverse viewing experience.
Additionally, a 1 km coastal exploration path will be constructed along the roadside in front of Myeongju Village, connected to the existing Wave Sound Trail, with photo zones and landscape lighting installed, expected to transform the area into a nighttime tourist attraction where visitors can leisurely stroll while enjoying the night sea.
Na Jae-yong, head of the Tourism Division, said, “We will do our best to make the Marine Drama Set, one of the country’s representative drama filming locations, safer and more refined so that it can become a ‘box office guarantee’ and a ‘tourism guarantee.’”
