[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jun-kyung] The Jeonnam Office of Education branch of the National Public Officials Union announced on the 14th that Kim Seong-hyun, an administrative officer working at the Jeonnam Student Education Center, was elected as the 9th branch chief, and Woo Jong-sik, an administrative officer working at San-i Elementary School in Haenam, was appointed as the secretary-general.

In this election, Branch Chief Kim Seong-hyun and Secretary-General Woo Jong-sik were elected with 2,254 votes (96.81%) in favor out of 2,326 valid votes cast by 3,251 total voters who participated via mobile voting conducted over two days from the 12th to the 13th.

Branch Chief-elect Kim Seong-hyun expressed his gratitude, saying, “I deeply thank the union members who supported me. Although it was difficult to conduct on-site visits due to COVID-19, I will never forget the poor working conditions of general staff and the relative deprivation felt by union members that I witnessed and heard about at educational sites across 22 cities and counties.”

He added, “The professional administrative capabilities of general staff are the most important driving force behind Jeonnam education, but the reality in the education sector is that they are not properly respected. Now, the labor union will do its part to ensure that the professional domain of general staff is guaranteed and their value recognized.”

Secretary-General-elect Woo Jong-sik also urged, “During the election period, I called on all general staff to unite and fight for a labor environment that can change the lives of public officials and workers as promised to union members.”

He continued, “The elected officials will do their best as the public officials union for Jeonnam education where students are happy, and will spare no effort to build schools for local residents by strengthening the capabilities of general staff,” adding, “The Jeonnam Office of Education branch of the Public Officials Union will do its utmost without losing the principles of communication and coexistence.”
