"Lee, the Only Person in the Party Who Knows How to Win Elections"
[Asia Economy Reporter Na Ye-eun] Twenty-seven youth aides chosen by Yoon Seok-yeol, the People Power Party's presidential candidate, poured out harsh criticism toward him.
On the 6th, Yoon attended a 'Dialogue with Youth Aides' held at the People Power Party Central Office in Yeouido, Seoul. The youth aides are young people assigned to each headquarters of the election campaign committee through a public interview last month, with the purpose of reflecting the voices of youth in all of Yoon's activities.
Mr. Kwak Seung-yong, who resigned following the previous day's 'Speakerphone Youth Meeting' incident, said, "You have to go with Representative Lee Jun-seok. There is talk outside that a motion to impeach Lee Jun-seok has been proposed, and when I saw that, I thought, 'Ah, they have decided to lose the election.'"
He added, "Representative Lee is the only person in this party who knows how to win the election," and insisted, "The candidate should go and stop the impeachment." This was said in reference to lawmakers discussing a resolution for Lee's resignation at a parliamentary meeting held at the same time. He also advised, "Go to FM Korea and Cheongnyeon-ui Kkum to gauge public opinion."
They directly targeted the so-called 'Yoon Core Group'?key figures close to candidate Yoon. Mr. Han Sang-hyun said, "Young people are asking, 'Is it right that Secretary-General Kwon Seong-dong stepped down? Are you planning to stop the so-called Yoon Core Group? Why are you abandoning Representative Lee?'" He criticized, "The party is full of treacherous ministers, sycophants, and political parasites like the Ten Eunuchs. Abandon them and stand again on the judgment platform of public sentiment."
He continued, "If you continue down this path, you will be assisting a candidate destined to fail and committing a sin in history. I hereby resign from my position as a youth aide," and then abruptly left the venue.
Another aide said, "The public expects the candidate to embrace Representative Hong Joon-pyo and former Representative Yoo Seung-min and work together in a magnanimous manner," while some emphasized, "I hope Yoon has a 'signature policy' that comes to mind when people think of him."
Candidate Yoon listened attentively, taking notes on the youths' remarks for over an hour. He said, "It hits me painfully. From now on, please entrust youth-related events in the central campaign organization to the youth." He promised, "I will listen to your voices, make decisions and select agendas, and ensure that you actively participate in creating alternatives on how to resolve issues."
