[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] Lee Young-ae, a member of the Daegu City Council's research group Daegu Legislative Future Forum, announced the results of the "Survey of Local University Students for Creating a Youth-Friendly City," a policy research project promoted last year.

From October to November last year, Councilor Lee Young-ae, together with Councilors Kim Jiman and Hwang Sunja, conducted the "Survey of Local University Students for Creating a Youth-Friendly City," surveying 401 local university students through 50% telephone interviews and 50% web surveys.

The survey results showed that 53.4% of local university students in Daegu want to live in Daegu, but only 27.2% said they would definitely start a business or find employment in Daegu, while 20.4% were considering moving away.

It was identified that solving job issues and improving the startup environment are the most urgent tasks to keep young people in the region.

"Want to Live Here but Difficulties in Employment and Entrepreneurship" ... Daegu City Councilor Lee Young-ae Raises Voice for Youth-Friendly City Response rates regarding reasons for wanting to relocate to a different region.

The main reason young people want to move is "because employment conditions such as jobs are not established," accounting for 28%, the highest rate, followed by "because salaries in Daegu are low and job stability is poor," at 15.9%.

Regarding economic policies that Daegu should support for youth, 35.2% of local university students chose "job policies such as youth employment and startups" as the most important. For employment policies needed by youth, "financial support for youth employment companies" received a 45% response rate.

Councilor Lee Young-ae said, "It has been confirmed that even though young people want to live in Daegu, they inevitably leave due to job issues," adding, "We need to set concrete goals such as making Daegu a city good for startups and employment and actively introduce more youth-friendly policies."

Lee also noted that 23.7% of local university students have debts such as student loans, expressing concern that economic instability could lead to academic instability, and emphasized the urgent need to prepare various support measures such as scholarships.

She further stated, "In the future, it is necessary to understand the living conditions of local university students in various ways and establish short- and long-term policies so that policies felt by youth can be created," stressing the importance of regular and in-depth accumulation and utilization of big data.

Based on the results of this survey, Councilor Lee Young-ae plans to continue follow-up measures such as proposing various policies and enacting ordinances to create a youth-friendly city.
