[Asia Economy Reporter Hyungsoo Park] Hansong Neotek announced on the 6th that its secondary battery material specialized subsidiary, Sinhwa IT, is jointly developing high-performance lead tabs for next-generation batteries with a U.S. global lithium metal battery company.
Starting from this partnership, Sinhwa IT plans to enhance the quality and technological competitiveness of its secondary battery materials and expand its global market share. The global secondary battery company involved in the joint development has succeeded in developing the next-generation "hybrid lithium metal battery." Compared to conventional lithium-ion batteries (energy density of 250~300Wh per kg), it has a higher energy density of 417Wh per kg (935Wh per L). The driving range increases by about 30% or more, and it can be fast-charged up to 90% within 12 minutes.
The U.S. secondary battery company has attracted investments from major domestic companies such as Hyundai Kia Motors, SK, and LG, as well as global companies including General Motors, Geely Automobile, and Foxconn. Earlier this year, it merged with a Special Purpose Acquisition Company (SPAC) and is set to be listed on the New York Stock Exchange.
Lead tabs are electrode terminals that connect the cathode and anode of secondary batteries to input and output electricity externally. They are essential materials used not only in lithium-ion batteries but also in next-generation secondary batteries such as lithium-sulfur, lithium metal, and all-solid-state batteries.
A Hansong Neotek official introduced, "Sinhwa IT is jointly developing next-generation high-performance lead tabs with the U.S. global lithium metal battery company," and added, "We are also conducting technical development consultations with U.S. all-solid-state battery companies." He continued, "Following global trends such as increased battery capacity and improved performance, demand for high-performance, high-capacity lead tabs is expected to surge."
Hansong Neotek officially entered the secondary battery business by acquiring the secondary battery material specialized company 'Sinhwa IT' in August last year. Recently, Sinhwa IT has been achieving significant results, including successfully signing lead tab supply contracts with U.S. all-solid-state battery company Enovix, Russia's Enertech, and China’s MGL.
