[Asia Economy Reporter Na Ye-eun] Regarding Yoon Seok-yeol, the People Power Party's presidential candidate, mentioning that his spouse Kim Geon-hee is "mentally and physically very exhausted," the Democratic Party directly responded, "Stop playing the 'victim cosplay' in front of the public."
Jeon Yong-gi, spokesperson for the Democratic Party's election committee, stated on his Facebook on the 5th, "The public's mental and physical state is becoming exhausted from watching the Yoon couple," expressing this view.
Spokesperson Jeon criticized, "At today's press conference, Candidate Yoon once again defended his spouse Kim Geon-hee by saying, 'There is no issue warranting criminal punishment.' Is he saying that marital harmony is above the law? This can only be seen as providing a 'investigation guideline' to the prosecution."
He continued, "It seems he has not yet abandoned the habit of sitting there and interfering in investigations by weighing his own interests from an 'all-knowing prosecution perspective.' If not, it seems he has forgotten that he is a former Prosecutor General," he added.
He also emphasized, "What the public wants to hear is not 'investigation guidelines' but a fair investigation based on law and principles to uncover the truth. The kind of rhetoric that 'there is no problem' clearly shows an intention to interfere in the investigation, and even the slightest allowance must not be given."
Spokesperson Jeon added, "Candidate Yoon should take the lead in clarifying the various suspicions surrounding Kim Geon-hee to uphold the value of 'fairness' he himself mentioned."
Earlier, on the same day (the 5th), Candidate Yoon held a press conference at the Yeouido party headquarters, announcing the dissolution of the election committee. When asked about his wife Kim Geon-hee, he replied, "Since the Cho Kuk incident two years ago, my wife and her family have been under intensive investigation for about two years. Because of that, she is mentally and physically very exhausted and is in a situation where some recuperation is needed."
He explained, "From my perspective, there probably won't be any criminal punishment, so I told her not to worry. However, as a woman, she has been under tremendous stress from continuously undergoing this. So, once she recovers well, I think she will quietly do what she can, such as volunteer work, rather than participating in political activities during the election campaign."
