"I Jaemyung's Swearing Maliciously Edited... He Must Feel Wronged"
[Asia Economy Reporter Na Ye-eun] Pro-government comedian Seo Seung-man has come out in defense of Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party presidential candidate, amid the 'brother-in-law curse controversy.'
Seo posted a column on September 3rd on 'Lee Jae-myung Plus,' a communication platform developed by the Democratic Party, stating, "The label of cursing at his brother-in-law follows Candidate Lee everywhere," and added, "It would have been better if he hadn’t used those curses, but thinking about the embarrassing phone call recordings leaking during the election campaign is a difficult situation."
He explained, "My wife heard about Candidate Lee’s brother-in-law curse incident and frowned deeply, looking very uncomfortable," and said, "I know the phone content has been maliciously edited and circulated, and although Candidate Lee feels very wronged, he is only apologizing."
He continued, "So I explained the context, saying it was Candidate Lee relaying what he heard from his brother, and that if it were me, I might have said even more. I asked if Candidate Lee wouldn’t feel very wronged since no one even verifies the facts and he has no chance to explain. My wife told me not to worry and comforted me," he added.
Seo emphasized, "Voters are not foolish enough to judge based on just one thing," and said, "They look more sharply at the candidate’s policies and debates. What matters in the remaining time is sincerely approaching the people."
He also said, "To those who attack with lies and petty nitpicking, I say, just as I want to open the veranda door and curse at the drunkard, Candidate Lee might want to curse freely too, but I tell him to hold back for now," adding, "I don’t know if this will be comforting, but we share the same feelings."
Meanwhile, Seo sparked controversy in September when the Daejang-dong development special favor allegations surfaced, saying, "Daejang-dong development was praised even overseas," and "Those who criticize Daejang-dong should get stomach cancer after the election out of jealousy."
