[Asia Economy Reporter Yoon Seul-gi] On the first day of the new year, A (50), the owner of a puppy, was booked without detention on charges of abandoning a 2-month-old puppy in the middle of a frozen river.
The Ansan Danwon Police Station in Gyeonggi announced on the 5th that A was booked without detention on charges of violating the Animal Protection Act and is under investigation.
A is accused of abusing the puppy by tying the 2-month-old puppy he was raising to a rock with a string on the frozen river near Tando Port in Danwon-gu, Ansan City, at around 2:30 p.m. on the 1st, preventing it from moving.
The first witness passing by saw A go to the middle of the river with the puppy, tie the leash made of rope to a rock, and leave. The witness approached and rescued the puppy. The witness said, "I was watching the frozen river when I saw a man enter the river, tie the puppy to a rock, and walk away calmly," adding, "The man was gone, and only the wet puppy was crying."
The puppy is currently being cared for by members of the animal protection group 'Dorosi Jikyeojulgae.'
The police identified A as the suspect through closed-circuit television (CCTV) and other means. It is reported that A voluntarily appeared at the police station the day before and was questioned.
During the police investigation, A stated, "I went fishing with two puppies that day, and the smaller puppy caused trouble, so I tied it up briefly to discipline it," adding, "I intended to bring it back shortly, but when I went back, the puppy was gone."
